SMAP will Pay Tribute to Michael Jackson on Kohaku Uta Gassen

It's almost an obligatory activity for Japanese people to watch the show Kohaku Uta Gassen on the last day of each year. This will be the 60th year that NHK has hosted the Kohaku Uta Gassen program. During the show, SMAP will be giving renditions of Michael Jackson's songs to commemorate this singer, who passed away suddenly this June.
在每年最後一天收看紅白歌合戰，可以說是日本人的例行公事也不為過。 ＮＨＫ紅白歌合戰今年即將邁入第60屆。 其中，SMAP將翻唱麥可傑克森的歌曲，追悼這位今年六月驟逝的歌手。

Jackson rarely [participated in] the filming of variety shows and SMAP were one of the few Japanese celebrities who had ever met him in person. Rumor has it that they will also be expressing their commemoration of Jackson during the program. In June 2006 the five members of SMAP [once] participated in a Fuji Television show, along with Michael Jackson.

The group's leader, Nakai Masahiro, was also the only Japanese celebrity invited to the world premiere of Michael Jackson: This is It in Los Angeles this October. Rumor has it that they will be performing a suite of Jackson's most popular songs on December 31st, such as Thriller and Beat it.
