Hedonometer uses Web to measure happiness around the world!
Pelpina Trip, The 33 News
American scientists have found a way to take the emotional temperature of the Internet.
The hedonometer is a device that measures the Web's mood. wefeelfine.org goes through more than 2 million blogs looking for sentences that begin with " I feel" or " I am feeling."
Since August 2005, they've collected more than 11 million emotions from around the world.
The Website shows thousands of particles resembling feelings from the past couple of hours. You can click on one to read the emotion.
It's even possible to search for emotions by country, or city. The site also shows the most common feelings. Right now, Dallas bloggers are mostly feeling…better!
A lot of interesting results are coming from this project. The hedonometer found, for example, that teenagers are the unhappiest group – making lots of use of words as "Hate," "lonely" and " depressed."
Researchers have found the happiest and saddest days over the last few years.
The average national happiness dropped when Michael Jackson died. And the overall happiest days this past year were election day and President Obama's inauguration.
